Brink’s Home Security Helps Sponsor Dallas MS Walk

IRVING, Texas (March 30, 2005) – Brink’s Home Security, Inc. will serve as a presenting sponsor of the 2005 Dallas Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Walk April 2. Last year Brink’s Home Security employees were the top fundraising team participating in the Dallas walk, with $25,000 raised in charitable contributions. The team was also the top fundraiser in 2003.

This is the third year Brink’s Home Security has served as a sponsor of the event, contributing $75,000 over that time period. In addition to this financial donation to help fund the program, Brink’s Home Security is also sponsoring a Scavenger Hunt this year. "We wanted to do something more this year, and it will be fun for the children to keep them interested while the walk is going on," said Terri Munoz, Team Walk Captain for Brink’s Home Security.

The Scavenger Hunt is part of a wider series of events this year to expand participation, according to Kelly Dooley, Development Director of Team MS. "We’re always looking for new ways to introduce exciting activities onto the agenda. It keeps participation up, and that’s the best way for us to raise money for this great cause," Dooley said.

MS usually strikes adults in the prime of life – between the ages of 20 and 50. It is a chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord. One new case of MS is diagnosed every hour. Money raised will be used for research and grants to find a cure.

In 2004, three cities in the North Texas region and 3,500 walkers raised a record $500,000 to fight MS. "For 2005, we’ve raised the bar even higher," Dooley said.

Other special events this year include a classic car show and the U.S. National Ice Sculpting semi-finals. "Even if you don’t plan on walking, we encourage people to come out and join us for a special day. A number of blues bands have donated their time to perform during the event, so there will be great music as well," Dooley said.

The program will also include the official launch of the Texas YAMS (Youth Against Multiple Sclerosis) Program and a special Fun Walk with pets and children. Start time is 9 a.m. at the Addison Special Events Park.

"Interested participants can still get in touch with us to volunteer or join a team. The best way to quickly find out information is call the MS Lone Star Chapter at 214.373.1400 or check online at www.mswalklonestar.org ," Dooley added.
